Fujifilm’s first compact wireless handheld ultrasound system for home medical care, visiting nurses, and hospital wards

Home medical care and care for the elderly have grown increasingly important on account of aging populations. While ultrasound testing is noninvasive and less of a burden for doctors, there are some who have yet to become fully accustomed to its application. Given the shortage of doctors, nurses with no experience performing these tests will be called on to conduct them. Measuring bladder capacity in elderly patients will also be required more often, although ultrasound testing for this purpose is not common, due in part to the difficulty of handling the equipment. Other common procedures burdensome for both medical workers and elderly patients include abdominal compression and urethral intubation. To address these issues, we developed a compact, wireless ultrasound system that is easy for doctors and nurses to operate and capable of automatically measuring urine volume.
