Keita Kamei, Product Designer

These are prototypes of a system that would enable users to print images captured with smartphones and digital cameras in Cheki films using a dedicated application. In designing the system, we focused on recreating the appearance of a silver halide photo printer rather than a generic electronic device. We reviewed anticipated usage conditions and settings and identified the key concepts, such as “the pleasure of ownership,” “spatial harmony” and “stationery,” that constitute the distinctive characteristics of the new product. We selected the “stationary” concept and improved the final design using 3D data and plaster models, particularly attending to the overall harmony of the design including the curvature of the unit’s surface and the layout of printed text.
